Date Night

Nick and I FINALLY got out of the house for a date last night. As soon as we were both in the car without Cali I felt naked. Like I was missing something. We both looked in the empty back seat and said this is weird! Once we got over the awkwardness of not having the baby with us, it was great! We went to a local italian restaurant. It was so nice to be able to enjoy dinner and have a conversation. It was great to just be together! Thanks Grandmas for being screamed at so we could go out on a date.

Grandparents

Friday was filled with Grandparents visits.
Cali got to see her Grandma Kerry, Grandpa Ray and Grandpa Pete in the late afternoon. Cali even let mom hold her for about 40 minutes! They stopped by after dad's big cancer Dr. visit. Everything is looking good.

Then Grandma Jordan and Granny came over in the evening. They hung out with Cali while Nick and I went on our first date since Cali arrived. Since Nick and I are the only people who have every watched Cali I wasn't sure how the evening would go. Turned out all right with Cali falling asleep in Grandma's arms. However this was after about 45 minutes of Cali screaming and crying! But the Grandmas did great!

Father's Day

I am blessed to have 2 of the world's best fathers in my life. One is my own dad and the other is my husband. It is amazing that I have 2 men who show me every day living examples of what God's love for his children looks like.

My dad has always been an encouraging force in my life. Growing up I can't remember a day where he didn't tell me how much he loved me. He was always there to play with us, talk to us, drive us around or just hang out with us. Whether it was a snow ball fight in the house or moving all over the world dad always made life entertaining. We are blessed to still have him with us. His courage and attitude through his cancer fight is a testament to all of us. For dad the glass is always HALF FULL! I love you daddy!

I knew Nick would be a wonderful daddy, but he has exceeded my wildest expectations. He truly is an active father who changes as many diapers as I do, plays with her, entertains her and holds her when she cries. Cali is so blessed to have a father that adores her and scarifies to be with her. Instead of working 50 hours a week and making more money, Nick works 35 hours a week and spends his afternoons with his daughter. I am so lucky to have a husband who shares the parenting responsibilities and is present for his daughter. I love you with all my heart!

It is hard to believe how life has changed in a year. It was last father's day where the line turned blue on a pregnancy test.

Teething

Cali has been pretty fussy the past 2 days. Well I would say more whinny than fussy. Nick remembered that one of the baby books said she could be teething already. So I called Super Mom aka my sister and she confirmed his diagnosis. I gave Cali tylenol twice yesterday and she slept 6 hours straight last night.

I can't wait for her to be able to talk so she can say "Mommy my gums hurt!" Poor thing had to wait 2 days in pain before we figured out what it was.

Kudos to Nick for figuring it out! He is so smart!

Feet

Cali has discovered her FEET! She has been playing with them a lot the past few days. She even got one in her month this morning while I was changing her diaper!

Growing

Cali must be going through a growth spurt! It seems like she wakes up bigger than the night before.

She is also eating like a crazy person. She was going 2-6 hours between feedings. The past few days it has been 1.5 to 3 hours max. This timing also crosses over to night time hours. She is now waking up every 3-4 hours to eat. So my nice 6 hour stretches of sleep are gone:( Last night we were up at 11:30pm, 2:45am, and 6am to eat. I told Nick she missed me.

I hope she gets done with this growing thing soon - I'm tired!

Hat

Our friends gave Cali a cute outfit that came with a hat. We think the hat is pretty cute!

Bumbo

We got Cali a Bumbo off of Craigslist today. It is bright yellow and has a tray. Cali still isn't sure what to think about it. I got it for her to sit in at work so she can see me and I can have both hands free.

It was also helpful tonight while we made dinner. We sat her in it, put her in the middle of the kitchen floor and made dinner. It is a pretty helpful little seat.

A ball

Nick has been trying really hard to get Cali to like a ball. This is the third kind he has gotten her. Ultimately the successful option was a wiffle ball for her little fingers to grab onto.

It begins

Nick helped a little. She is so close to doing it by herself! Not bad for 3.5 months.

A Schedule

We seem to have gotten Cali on a schedule. She has actually been in bed between 8-8:30pm the past 5 nights. During the week she went down at 8pm and was up around 6:30am. This is just in time to get ready to go to work with me. So Saturday morning when she was up at 6am and ready to start the day so was I.

The down side of being on a schedule is having to follow it. I decided against trying to get her back to sleep and voted to follow the schedule. However when she was ready for her first morning nap, so was I! This is how Nick found us at 9am when he got up.

However this morning Nick took the first shift and let me sleep in to 9!

Amazing Daddy

This is what Nick does every afternoon during the week. Cali comes to work with me in the mornings and Nick comes to get her around 1. He then spends the afternoons entertaining her and trying to get her to take a bottle. Once they are both worn out they retire to the recliner. Where Cali sleeps and Nick plays on the computer. He is an amazing daddy!

New Trick

This is Cali's new trick! She tries to sit up out of her car seat. Notice her head is about 4 inches up off the seat.

She has started to lift her head a lot more.

Bed time

I wish I could say our little girl is in bed at 8pm every night, but I can't. Most nights it is anywhere from 8pm-10:30pm. It all depends on her mood, how her naps went and what it going on. We still haven't found a bed time routine that works for everyone.

Cali's favorite is to eat around 7pm, fall asleep with Nick on the recliner for an hour and a half, then get her PJ's on, nurse and in the crib around 9ish.

Tonight she didn't nap after 5pm. So after her bath around 7:45pm she was tired. I nursed her and she was out by 8:10pm! I celebrated with a glass of red wine and Nick celebrated by playing video games.

We'll see how tomorrow night goes!

3 Months Old!

We can't believe she is 3 months old! Sometimes it seems like only yesterday we brought her home and other days it seems like she has always been a part of our lives.

To celebrate 3 months with our little Cali Maple I took her to Portrait Innovations here in town to get pictures made. Here are a few of our favorites!

If you notice she isn't looking at the camera. She would only smile if she was looking at me. She wasn't too fond of the camera guy.
